Advisor Advisory

The brief

The client wanted one place where Canadians could look up investment advisors and judge them before making contact. That information is normally scattered across regulator databases, firm websites and word of mouth, so all the comparison work falls on the investor. The site had to pull it into a single profile per advisor and make the differences easy to read. It launched covering Atlantic Canada, with the structure ready to expand nationwide.

What I built

Every advisor gets a profile carrying their qualifications, regulatory status, firm affiliation and location, so an investor sees the same set of facts for everyone on their shortlist. Visitors browse the directory, filter it, open a profile and make contact from there. Contact runs through a form on the profile rather than a published phone number, which keeps the first approach on the advisor's terms.

Behind the public site is an admin panel for keeping the directory accurate. Advisors arrive two ways: an application form they complete themselves, and bulk import through the admin panel when a batch of records needs adding at once. The admin panel is also where the directory is monitored and kept current once records are in.

How it works

Laravel and MySQL on the backend, JavaScript and Tailwind CSS on the front. The data model treats the advisor, their credentials and their firm relationship as separate related records rather than one flat row, which is what makes filtering by any combination of them straightforward as the directory grows past its first region.

My role

Freelance and solo, about one month from the first call to the live site. Frontend, backend, database and deployment were all mine.
