ESA Bed & Carpet

The brief

The client I had built the ESA Windows and Doors site for came back for his other business, a bed and carpet shop. A brochure site would not do this time. Beds are sold in combinations rather than as fixed products, and he wanted customers to build the exact bed they wanted, see the price change as they chose, and pay online.

What I built

The bed builder is the heart of it. A customer picks a size, then works through the options: base type, headboard height, fabric and colour, button detailing, ottoman storage, split requirements, assembly and room of choice delivery. Size sets the starting price and every add on carries its own price, so the total climbs as the specification grows and the customer always sees what their choices cost before committing.

Carpets work differently. They are priced by width and height, and the same carpet can be listed at several size and price combinations, so a customer picks the dimensions they actually need instead of rounding up to a standard roll. Mattresses follow the simpler size based model.

Checkout runs for both guests and registered customers, with Stripe and PayPal handling payment. The cart stores a full snapshot of the chosen options and their prices at the moment of adding. That detail matters: when the shop later adjusts pricing, orders already placed keep the figures the customer agreed to.

How it works

The backend is a Laravel REST API with MySQL, consumed by a React frontend.

The admin panel covers the whole catalogue: creating and editing beds, carpets and mattresses, managing images and choosing the main one shown in listings, tracking orders through status changes, and reviewing sales figures.

Freelance and solo, roughly one month. I built the API, the storefront, the configurator pricing and the admin panel.
